NovaSol Wins $4.15 million Civil Air Patrol Contract

NovaSol has completed contract negotiations for a $4.15 million commitment to provide 15 hyperspectral imaging systems to the Civil Air Patrol in response to the agency's "Searcher's Edge" Program (Hyperspectral Imaging and a Visual Computing Network). The program, the first broad application of the high-tech airborne imaging systems in a civilian application, will be used to enhance CAP's mission capabilities. NovaSol will provide airborne and ground station components to be used on CAP aircraft. The systems will collect hyperspectral and high resolution panchromatic data for real-time and post-flight processing and analysis. Fifteen systems will be deployed at all centers of the CAP across the nation.

The Civil Air Patrol is a charitable, not-for-profit corporation and civilian auxiliary to the United States Air Force. While CAP has long been associated with search and rescue missions, its work also includes disaster relief and communications, as well as counterdrug and homeland security missions.

"CAP is embarking on a new leg of its 61-year-long journey of Missions for America," according to Colonel Drew Alexa, CAP. "As we continue this journey, we will have to use proven mission capabilities and skills combined with exciting cutting edge technology. Technology is the common denominator which allows the many different agencies and organizations interoperability and the ability to share information", he said.

"We are proud to be a part of this overall effort by supporting the technology needs of the Civil Air Patrol. This is a big step forward for the application of hyperspectral technologies for rapid response in applications which will benefit ordinary citizens in search and rescue operations and disaster mitigation," said James P. Karins, president and CEO of NovaSol. "The experience and the ingenuity of our team was recognized by CAP, and we look forward to making this vital contribution to the CAP mission."
