NovaSol Wins $13.2 million R&D Contract for DOTS

Honolulu high-tech defense contractor NovaSol has won a $13.2 million research and development contract from the U.S. Special Operations Command.

NovaSol will work on the Dynamic Optical Tags System. The project's goal is to develop small, thin, environmentally sound, long-lived, modulated optical retro-reflecting tag and a long-range interrogation system. The system will have a wide range of military, logistical and law enforcement applications.

Work on the contract is expected to be complete in March 2005, with two additional phases completed in 2006 and 2007.

Congressman Neil Abercrombie said the contract is more good news for Hawaii's economy.

"It highlights our growing high-tech sector and shows that our R&D capabilities are a match for those on the mainland," he said. "The bottom line is more opportunities for skilled jobs in Hawaii's 21st century economy."
