GeoSight will allow soldiers to conduct force-on-force simulations with indirect fire weapons. These types of weapons fire rounds on high-arc trajectories, often over obstacles. Line-of-sight techniques like the Army’s MILES "laser-tag" system are therefore inadequate for automated scoring during maneuvers.


GeoSight concept of operation
The GeoSight instrument package maintains an accurate knowledge of the weapon’s location and bearing. The goal of the project is to produce a strap-on system that combines precise position and attitude measurements with ballistic computations to accurately determine the impact point of a simulated round. The GeoSight project is funded under a Phase II SBIR grant by the U.S. Army’s Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI). The program capitalizes on NovaSol's expertise in advanced precision pointing and navigation systems. Other NovaSol applications of this technology include an experimental hyperspectral reconnaissance camera for the Navy, and an advanced stabilization gimbal for NASA.
